Itinerary
Day 1
Day 2
Cusco to Aguas Calientes
5 Stops
1
Cusco
We start the day by picking you up from your hostel or hotel at around 9:50am, noon or early in the afternoon, depending on your train ticket.
2
Chinchero District
Your first stop on the journey is the colonial village of Chinchero. This village holds a small textile centre, beautifully crafted churches with mural paintings and Incan remains. This stop is one of the highest places in Cusco and is an incredible vantage point to enjoy the beautiful Peruvian landscapes.
3 hours
3
Moray
You will arrive in Moray, a kind of greenhouse for the Incas and where they acclimatised different products before transporting to other regions. After this we will take you to the Salt Mines (Salineras), where there are more than 4,000 fountains of natural salt that are still being worked by locals.
4
Ollantaytambo
Then following along the Wilcamayu River (Sacred River) you will arrive in Ollantaytambo. You will have the chance to visit other Incan sites where locals still continue to live. There are but few places in Cusco and Peru where people continue to live on Incan sites. The religious site is located at the top where the temple of the sun is perched.
5
Aguas Calientes
The train ride to Aguas Calientes will be approximately 1 hour and 43 minutes. At Aguas Calientes train station one of our representatives will be waiting for you holding a sign with your name ready to take you to your accommodation.
Enjoy the rest of the day at your own pace in Aguas Calientes. Take advantage of the wonderful hot springs and world class Andean Cuisine. Later on, one of our professional tour guides will meet you at your hostel reception for any last details about your Machu Picchu visit.
