Itinerary
1
South Bank Lion
The tour starts at the South Bank, south of the river Thames giving a great vantage point of the river, the London Eye and the historic Houses of Parliament, The Elizabeth Tower and Westminster Bridge. Here we will have a short introduction to night photography, with your professional photographer, who is also a qualified photography teacher. The tutor will enable you to learn all the camera settings required to take dramatic nighttime photographs. You will also be offered a tripod to use if you have requested one as this enables you to take more successful night photos. The next location is the historic Royal Festival Hall at the heart of the South Bank Centre.
1 hour
2
Golden Jubilee Bridges
At this point in the tour, we go up to the Golden Jubilee Bridge to gain a higher vantage point above the River Thames. We will take a series of photos of the iconic landmarks and the bridge itself. This will be followed by feedback on your photos, showing you what to do to create more dramatic and atmospheric images with specific feedback on how to get the most out of your brand of camera.
20 minutes
3
Victoria Embankment
We approach the Victoria Embankment on the northern side of the river. Here we get more vantage points of the river and the London Eye and encourage everyone to be more experimental in their picture taking, capturing reflections in water and experimenting with varying slow exposure. There is more than one way to take photographs at night, and everyone is encouraged to take more imaginative images.
25 minutes
4
Big Ben
We now approach the best locations to photograph The Elizabeth Tower. (The name Big Ben was always used to describe the actual bell within the tower). The aim here will be to capture dramatic light trails in varying colour which sweep past this iconic monument which is part of the parliament buildings.
20 minutes
5
Westminster Bridge
A few minutes’ walk and we are back at Westminster Bridge. Here we explore the best vantage points to take a series of images of light trails, views from the bridge and alternative shots of the London Eye. There will be feedback on your images with tips on how to improve them for maximum effect.
