Surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens, Kinkaku-ji presents a stunning view, particularly during the autumn season when the golden temple contrasts with the vibrant red leaves. Learn about the temple's past as a villa of the shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, and according to his will, how it became a Zen temple of the Rinzai sect after his death.

Head to Kiyomizu-dera in the eastern part of Kyoto. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Kiyomizu-dera boasts over 1,200 years of history.
