Yapahuwa is a historical site in Sri Lanka with rich cultural and architectural significance. It was once a fortress and served as the capital of Sri Lanka briefly during the 13th century under King Bhuvanekabahu I. Yapahuwa is famous for its impressive rock fortress and the intricate stone staircase that leads up to a stupa, which remains one of its most iconic features. The staircase, with beautifully carved lion statues and other intricate stonework, reflects the craftsmanship of the era and draws comparisons to the grandeur of Sigiriya and other ancient sites.
