Starting at the Laxey Wheel, we discover how Laxey evolved from an insignificant sleepy fishing village to the centre of a lucrative mining community with Lady Isabela, the largest surviving water wheel in the world, standing as a bold statement turning to keep the mines free of water. We will then head down to the beautiful sandy bay passing Laxey Woolen Mills before heading to our next stop.

Nous nous aventurons à Maughold, située dans une région d'une beauté naturelle époustouflante. Nous pourrons y découvrir un mélange unique d'héritage celtique et viking, en admirant de remarquables exemples de croix en pierre sculptées et en explorant les vestiges du premier monastère de l'île datant du VIe siècle.

En nous arrêtant à Ramsey, nous verrons un port animé et un pont tournant victorien ; nous rencontrerons également des kilomètres de plages de sable et de baies, désormais une réserve naturelle marine protégée.

Heading towards the west of the island, we’ll venture to Peel with its stunning backdrop of the ancient castle, fishing harbour and sandy bay. We can wander through the quaint streets with their tiny fishing cottages or around the castle, keeping a look out for the Atlantic grey seals or our resident Bottlenose dolphins, Moonlight and Starlight. Opportunity if desired to buy local gifts at the House of Manannan and see replicas of a viking ship, round and long house.

En nous dirigeant vers le centre de l'île, nous apercevrons la colline de Tynwald. On pense que Tynwald a été fondée par des colons vikings nordiques il y a plus de mille ans, ce qui en fait le plus ancien parlement au monde. La colline est aujourd'hui l'un des monuments les plus emblématiques de l'île, symbolisant l'indépendance de l'île de Man en tant que dépendance autonome de la Couronne. Cette région regorge de richesses historiques, notamment la chapelle royale, la tombe d'un géant et les pierres néolithiques de Ballaharra.

En nous aventurant vers la pointe sud de l'île, nous découvrirons le détroit qui surplombe l'une des sections d'eau les plus dangereuses, jusqu'au Calf of Man, aujourd'hui réserve naturelle abritant une faune abondante. C'est également l'occasion de se rafraîchir.

Overlooking the Calf of Man, Cregneash was one of the last strongholds of the Manx language; as we wander amongst the traditional thatched Manx cottages, that contain a living folk museum, there is a chance to see two of our favourite Manx animals, a cat with no tail and Loaghtan Sheep.

Lastly we'll visit Castletown, the island’s ancient capital which is wrapped around what is said to be the best-preserved medieval castle in Europe. There are plenty of picturesque lanes with seaside fishing cottages to admire as we take in the sea air looking at beautiful views across to Langness with time to explore the castle too if desired. The tour timings allow for travel between points of interest and refreshments stops.

Travelling back to Douglas we will pass over the traditional fairy bridge, where locals till say hello to the fairies.
