Designed to resemble two hands joined together with palms turned toward the sky, the pedestal holds a flame created from fires collected from religious institutions and industrial plants across Japan, as well as the historic flame of Miyajima's Mount Misen. This iconic flame carries a powerful promise: it will burn continuously until all nuclear weapons on Earth are completely abolished. Looking through the arch of the Cenotaph toward the Atomic Bomb Dome with the flame centered inside creates one of the most memorable and photogenic vistas in the park, symbolizing Hiroshima's ultimate goal of global nuclear disarmament.

Officially named the Memorial Monument for Hiroshima, City of Peace, this iconic arch-shaped monument stands at the heart of Peace Memorial Park. Designed by renowned architect Kenzo Tange, the concrete structure resembles an ancient Japanese saddle-shaped clay roof (haniwa), built to shelter the souls of the atomic bomb victims from rain and wind. Underneath the arch lies a stone chest containing the registry of all known A-bomb victims, regardless of nationality, continuously updated each year. Engraved on the front is the famous message: "Let all the souls here rest in peace, for we shall not repeat the evil." Aligned perfectly with the Flame of Peace and the Atomic Bomb Dome, it is the central site where visitors from around the world pause to pay their respects.

Located underground next to the Cenotaph in Peace Memorial Park, this national memorial hall was established by the Japanese government to mourn all victims of the atomic bombing and pray for lasting peace.
