Udawalawe National Park
Udawalawe National Park is a national park in southern Sri Lanka, established in 1972 to protect wildlife displaced by the construction of the Udawalawe Reservoir. It is best known for its large and easily visible population of Asian elephants, with hundreds of them frequently seen near the reservoir. The park's open grasslands and scrubland make it an ideal habitat for spotting elephants, as well as other wildlife like leopards, sambar deer, and water buffaloes. The park is also an important bird sanctuary, home to over 180 species, and includes the Udawalawe Elephant Transit Home, a rehabilitation center for orphaned calves.

Elephant Transit Home (ETH)
The Udawalawe Elephant Transit Home (ETH) is a government-run facility in Sri Lanka that rehabilitates orphaned and abandoned elephant calves with the goal of releasing them back into the wild. You can watch the young elephants being fed milk and a power mix at specific times from a viewing platform. It is part of a program to re-integrate juveniles into the Udawalawe National Park ecosystem, with the hope that they will eventually become part of wild herds.
