Hattem
About
Hattem’s central location makes it easy to visit from wherever you are staying in the Netherlands. Even though it's small, it was once part of the mighty Hanseatic League of trading towns and cities across northern Europe.
On this self-guided GPS audio tour, you'll wander down picturesque lanes past windmills, pocket-sized homes, imposing fortified town walls, ghost houses and bakeries with your guide, Annette Welkamp, the Director of Culture Counsel. There are also plenty of places to stop on the way to pull up a chair, order a coffee and watch the world walk, or cycle, past.

Anton Pieck Museum
This museum presents the life and work of one of the most beloved artists and illustrators in the Netherlands.
3
De Dijkpoort van Hattem
The Dyke Gate is the only one of the four original inner entrance gates to the old walled city. It conjures up a time of mediaeval knights, castles and fortifications, all of which played a role in Hattem’s past.
4
Nederlands Bakkerij Museum
The Dutch Bakery Museum is a real sweet treat. Check out the sights, the smells and sounds of the museum. Then take a seat and order a coffee with traditional Dutch baked temptations at the Museum’s Café. Finally, pop into the Museum shop for something yummy to take home.
5
Rijksmonument Daendelshuis Hattem
This picture-perfect house conjures up images of paintings by Dutch master artist Johannes Vermeer. Perhaps a woman with pearl earrings also lived here. The family of the former Governor-General of the Dutch East Indies, Herman Willem Daendels, certainly did.
6
Restaurant de Voorburcht
This restaurant is located on the remains of the forecourt of a very large mediaeval castle that stood nearby. Ask the staff if they have seen any ghosts.
7
Rijksmonument Het Stadhuis Van Hattem
Hattem’s Town Hall keeps a watchful eye over the market square and the main church.
8
Andreaskerk of Grote Kerk Hattem
Almost a 1,000 years old, this majestic church is at the heart of Hattem. Its interior is elegant and finely-tuned in that very northern European way. From the beautiful flowers that decorate the soaring white ceiling to the inscribed gravestones underfoot, less is definitely more. And not one, but two organs, makes it all complete
9
Voerman Stadsmuseum Hattem
This museum gives the visitor an opportunity to explore inside a historic homestead with its low ceilings, tiled floors and private garden. On display are art, historical and archaeological objects that tell the many stories of Hattem.
