Sardis (Sardes)
Sardis was once the capital of the Lydia Ancient Kingdom. It was one of the most important cities of the time under the Persian Empire. Today on your visit you will get to see the ruins of the gymnasium, the Synagogue and the Byzantine Shops. The Synagogue dates back to the 2nd Century A.D. when the Babylon Temple was destroyed and over 125,000 Jewish people relocated here. Today you will also see the Patroclos River where the King Midas is said to have bathed.
