1
Fushimi Inari I-Station
Meet your guide and begin with an introduction to the tour’s focus on avoiding crowds while exploring the spiritual atmosphere of Fushimi Inari at night. Receive safety instructions for the mountain trail, learn how to use the provided flashlight or headlamp, and hear a short introduction to kitsune (fox) symbolism in Inari worship.
5 minutes
2
Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine
Explore the origins of Inari worship at the iconic Romon Gate, including the connection to the Hata clan and why Inari became associated with prosperity and business success. At the Main Shrine, your guide will demonstrate traditional Japanese prayer etiquette and explain the symbolism of the shrine’s vermilion colors and sacred architecture.
Walk through the illuminated tunnel of thousands of vermilion torii gates while learning about the tradition of dedicating torii to the shrine since the Edo period. Your guide will explain the inscriptions carved into the gates and the unique wish-making culture connected to Inari worship. Enjoy time for atmospheric nighttime photography.
15 minutes
4
Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine
Experience the famous Omokaru-ishi wishing stone, believed to reveal whether a wish will come true depending on how heavy it feels when lifted. Learn about the unique fox-shaped ema plaques and the spiritual role of foxes as messengers of Inari rather than gods themselves.

Climb deeper into Mt. Inari along lantern-lit stone paths surrounded by cedar forest. Reach Yotsutsuji intersection, approximately 160 meters above sea level, for panoramic night views over Kyoto and free photo time. Hear how Mt. Inari has long been regarded as a sacred mountain before descending along a different torii pathway.
Descend through the separate return lane of the Senbon Torii and pass the Main Shrine and Romon Gate once more while reflecting on the journey. The tour concludes at JR Inari Station (JR Nara Line), where your guide will provide directions back to Kyoto Station and assist with photo sharing or additional recommendations.
