Cathédrale de Svetitskhoveli
Svetitskhoveli Cathedral is one of the most significant and revered religious structures in Georgia, located in the historic city of Mtskheta. Here’s a comprehensive look at this monumental site:
Svetitskhoveli Cathedral was originally built in the 4th century, but the current structure was constructed between 1010 and 1029 AD during the reign of King George I of Georgia. It was designed by the architect Arsukidze.
The cathedral is famously associated with the holy relic of Christ's robe. According to tradition, the robe was brought to Mtskheta by a Jewish merchant and was buried here. The cathedral’s name, which translates to "Life-Giving Pillar," reflects the significance of this relic.
