Discover the charming city of Pernik, just an hour from Sofia. Explore its 20th-century landmarks, Soviet-era appeal, and delightful local dishes. Visit the 10th-century Krakra Fortress, a medieval Bulgarian stronghold that withstood numerous Byzantine invasions.
This vibrant city is home to the only museum in Europe dedicated to mining. The building of the Mining Directorate in Pernik was built in 1932.The building is distinguished by its impressive architecture and is often considered one of the most beautiful in Bulgaria.
See the miners' church, St. Ivan Rilski (the saint protector of the minors), and a monument dedicated to miners. Visit the first underground mine, now a mining museum, and the former Mining Theater, now a historical museum.
The total visiting time for the respective sites is about 3 hours and you will also have 2 more hours of free time for a lunch break and to check the souvenir shops.
