Aswan High Dam
The Aswan High Dam is a rock-fill dam situated at the northern boundary between Egypt and Sudan. This impressive structure is supplied by the waters of the River Nile, creating the vast reservoir known as Lake Nasser. The ambitious project's construction commenced in 1960 and reached completion in 1968, with its official inauguration taking place in 1971. The Unfinished Obelisk: A Glimpse into Ancient Egypt's Granite Heritage
Aswan's Northern Quarries house the large unfinished obelisk, revealing fascinating insights into ancient monument construction. Three sides, nearly 42m long, were carved, yet the inscriptions remain incomplete. At 1168 tonnes, had it been finished, it would have been the heaviest stone ever fashioned by the ancient Egyptians.
