Ancienne ville d'Éphèse
Éphèse était la deuxième plus grande ville de l'Empire romain, avec plus de 250 000 habitants au Ier av. J.-C. Elle était la deuxième plus grande ville du monde, juste derrière Rome. Éphèse était également une ville portuaire, construite uniquement en marbre. Saviez-vous qu'Éphèse possédait le plus grand amphithéâtre du monde antique, avec plus de 25 000 places ? La Maison de la Vierge Marie est le lieu où, selon de nombreuses croyances, Marie, mère de Jésus, aurait passé les dernières années de sa vie. Elle aurait dû arriver à Éphèse avec saint Jean et y aurait vécu de 37 à 45 apr. J.-C. jusqu'à son Assomption ou Dormition.
