Take a quick look at Palazzo Vecchio, Florence’s historic seat of government—a medieval fortress that once housed a prison for the city’s most dangerous criminals and later became the original residence of the Medici family.

End your tour at Ponte Vecchio, the symbol of Florence and the city’s oldest bridge, famous for its jewelry shops overlooking the Arno River.
