Leave the hustle and bustle of Fez behind while heading to the small town of Merzouga at 8 a.m. Cross the mountains of the Middle Atlas and its beautiful cedar forests, full of Berber apes. This mountain range extends 350 kilometers from the southeast to the northeast of Morocco.
Along the way, you will admire the city of Ifrane, located at a height of 5,460 meters above sea level. This city is also known as the "Little Switzerland" of Morocco, for its architecture and for being one of the most exclusive ski resorts in the country. Azrou, a lovely city in the heart of the Atlas, is also on the road.
Cross the Ziz Valley and the dramatic gorges and pass through towns like Midelt and Erfoud. From Erfoud, take a dirt road until you reach Merzouga. Here, you will spend the first night in a hotel on the edge of the endless desert.
