Itinerary
1
Smolen Castle Ruins
Departing from Krakow, a scenic 1-hour drive through the picturesque countryside brings us to our first stop: the Pilcza Castle ruins in Smoleń. This hidden medieval gem is perched on a steep limestone hill. We will take a beautiful walk through the ancient beech forest to reach the ruins, where you can climb the iconic cylindrical tower for a breathtaking, 360-degree panoramic view of the rolling hills of the Polish Jurassic Highland.
1 hour
2
Ruiny Zamku Mirow
After approximately 40 minutes of scenic driving from Smoleń, we will reach the iconic Mirów Castle. It is an absolutely spectacular fortress, famous for its unique architectural shape and dramatic location, perched perfectly among massive limestone rocks (called ostańce). We will take a 30-minute stop here to walk up to the castle, stroll around its majestic outer walls, and capture some incredible photos of how medieval history blends seamlessly with wild nature.
30 minutes
3
Bobolice Castle
Next, a short drive in our comfortable SUV will take us directly to the Mirów Castle "twin"—the 14th-century Bobolice Royal Castle. This fortress is a unique project, having been completely rebuilt from total ruin by private owners. Inside, you will experience the authentic, raw atmosphere of a medieval mountain stronghold. Right after exploring the castle, we will take a relaxing 1-hour break for lunch at the elegant restaurant located right next to the fortress walls. It is the perfect moment to sit back and experience traditional Polish cuisine at its finest, like traditional dumplings, at own expense.
1 hour and 30 minutes
4
Ogrodzieniec Castle
Continuing 40 minutes further south, we reach the crown jewel of the trail. Explore the largest and most impressive ruins in the region. Built directly into the limestone rocks, this fortress served as a filming location for Netflix's "The Witcher." We will tour the interior of the ruins, climbing the tower and exploring the courtyards and walls.
1 hour
5
Bledow Desert
A 20-minute drive takes us to a landscape that feels worlds away from the medieval castles. We will first visit the Dąbrówka viewpoint, where you can step directly onto the sands of Central Europe’s largest inland desert. Next, a short drive takes us to the spectacular Czubatka viewpoint on the opposite side, offering an incredible panoramic view of the desert from above—a vast area that famously served as a military training ground for the Afrika Korps during WWII. It is an absolute prime spot for surreal, wide-angle photography, and a perfect moment to relax with a coffee or a cold drink while enjoying the endless horizon (at own expense).
45 minutes
6
Zamek Pieskowa Skala
After a comfortable 40-minute drive in our SUV, we arrive at Ojców National Park. Our first major highlight is the picturesque Renaissance Pieskowa Skała Castle—often called the 'Little Wawel'—where we’ll stop to admire its stunning exterior and enjoy a short walk around the grounds.
30 minutes
7
Maczuga Herkulesa
Next, we’ll make a short photo stop at Hercules' Club (Maczuga Herkulesa)—an iconic, 25-meter limestone monolith standing right beside Pieskowa Skała Castle. It is one of Poland's most famous natural landmarks. Your guide will show you the best photo spots and share the fascinating local legends surrounding this unique rock formation. Afterward, we will head back to Krakow, arriving at your hotel after a relaxed 45-minute drive.
