Dunhuang is an oasis surrounded by desert and gravel in northwestern China. It was the main (and only) gateway to and from China on the route, known as the Silk Road, between China, Western Asia and the sub-continent of India.
The most prominent site in Dunhuang, the Mogao Grottoes, is a quintessential world heritage site. It is a Buddhist grotto temple and is also a heritage art museum replete with murals, statues and architectural monuments. Other than a unique treasure house of art, it also records a millennium of cultural interchange via the Silk Road between China, India, Persian, Greco-Roman and Central Asia,which is far more significant than silk or other exotic merchandise.

At 13:45, meet you tour guide in the lobby of your Dunhuang hotel, transfer to the Digital Exhibition Center of Mogao Grottoes, watch 2 films about the back ground of Dunhuang and the digital caves in the 360 degree cinema, Then, transfer to the caves area,which is famous for it's fresco and sculpture in the world. enjoy 8 real caves this afternoon.

20:30 in Dunhuang Grand Theater, THE SILK ROAD inspired by the magnificent Dunhuang frescoes,the world famous Chinese classic dance drama. It follows master fresco painter Zhang, his daughter Yingniang and Persian merchant Yunus as they travel along the Silk Road. The play memorializes the deep friendship between Chinese people and foreign people, depicts wisdom and open dynasty, and the frequent international exchanges in the fields of economy and culture. It also weaves a story of great friendship through song and the ancient, beautiful, innovative and unique style of dance.
