Castalia Spring
At the foot of Mount Parnassos, within the angle formed by the twin rocks of the Phaedriades, lies the Pan-Hellenic sanctuary of Delphi, which had the most famous oracle of ancient Greece. Delphi was regarded as the center of the world.
According to mythology, it is here that the two eagles sent out by Zeus from the ends of the universe to find the navel of the world ,met.
The sanctuary of Delphi, set within a most spectacular landscape, was for many centuries the cultural and religious center and symbol of unity for the Hellenic world.

Delphi
Today's small town of Delphi (population 2,300) is now a gathering place for hotels, hostels, restaurants, shops and tourist attractions.
It was founded in 1892, when the village of Kastri, which had grown up in the area of the Temple of Apollo, moved to a new location one kilometer west to allow the excavation of the ancient site.
This is a good base for exploring the surrounding area.

Arachova
In winter, wealthy Athenians like to visit the mountain village of Arachova (population 800), on the northern slopes of Mount Parnassos, a few kilometers east of Delphi.
The old stone buildings house old-fashioned hotels and hostels with traditional décor and small romantic taverns serving local specialties such as chelopites (forma pasta) and formaéla (grilled cheese).
The village is known for the flokati fluffy rugs made there, which you will find in shops all over the city.
