Vieille ville de Plovdiv

Hisar Kapia
Main gate of the old town of Plovdiv, part of the town's inner fortifications, Hisar Kapia (literally from Turkish - "fortress gate") preserves traces from many epochs. Over the ancient walls, there are mediaeval and Ottoman layers. In the 19th century, local wealthy tradesmen built their beautiful houses directly over the old fortifications, creating the charming architectural ensemble you can see today.
