Huaraz – Querococha Lake – Chavín Monument / Museum
This tour takes you to one of Peru’s most important archaeological sites, Chavín de Huántar, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Chavín was one of the earliest civilizations in Peru and the first major religious and ceremonial center in the Andes.
The journey begins by traveling through the southern towns of Recuay, Ticapampa, and Catac, before heading east into the Cordillera Blanca. We make a 20-minute stop at Querococha Lake (3,900 m) to enjoy the views and take photos. The route then continues up to the Cahuish Pass/Tunnel, crossing over into the Conchucos Valley. After a long and winding descent, we arrive in the town of Chavín.

Here, we visit the impressive Chavín Archaeological Complex, including the Square Plaza, Circular Plaza, El Castillo, the underground labyrinths, and the iconic Lanzón. The tour also includes a visit to the Chavín Museum, located 1 km from town, where you’ll learn about the development, phases, and significance of this early high-Andean culture.
After lunch in Chavín and a short walk through the town, we return to Huaraz along the same route.
