Liberty Square wears its contradictions openly — a Soviet monument standing feet from a statue of Reagan, and a fiercely contested WWII memorial of the Nazi occupation that still divides the city today. Few squares in Europe argue with themselves quite like this one.

Rising like a Gothic crown along the Danube, the Hungarian Parliament hides the nation's most sacred object — the thousand-year-old crown of King Stephen — deep within its guarded halls. By night, its 691 rooms glow gold across the water, keeping watch over the city that built it.

In October 1956, Budapest rose against Soviet rule — students, workers, and soldiers fighting side by side for eleven fierce days of freedom. It ended in tanks and executions, but the spirit of '56 never really left the city's walls, whispering through bullet-scarred buildings to this day.

The biggest Synagogue in Europe, the old ghetto wall, a graveyard and cocktail bars share the same cobblestones here, and somehow, both feel like remembrance. during the walk, I will show you 3 of the nicest temples in the quarter, the Ghetto Memorial Wall, true but sad stories of the the people who suffered through the 2nd WW and their tragedies.

Beneath a roof of Zsolnay tiles, Central Market Hall has fed Budapest since 1897 — paprika stalls, pickle vendors, and lace sellers packed into a cathedral built for commerce, not prayer. Wander upstairs, and the souvenir stands can't quite hide the ghosts of a hundred years of haggling.

Beneath Buda Castle, ten kilometers of tunnels hide a secret that stayed classified until 2002 — a bomb-proof hospital that treated the wounded of WWII, then the fighters of 1956, before becoming a Cold War nuclear bunker. Wax figures and original beds still fill its corridors, as if the doctors just stepped out.

Carved by prehistoric hot springs and used for half a million years, the Labyrinth beneath Buda Castle has served as wine cellar, torture chamber, and prison — reportedly even holding Vlad the Impaler himself, jailed here by King Matthias in the 15th century.

The Monument of National Martyrs honors those who lost their lives during Hungary’s political struggles and upheavals in the early 20th century. Located near Parliament, it reflects themes of sacrifice, remembrance, and national identity. During our walk I will share my knowledge of how in 1945 Stalin and the soviet troops liberated then invaded Hungary and that was just the beginning of the terror and the dictatorship on the country and the people in Hungary.
