KIz Kulesi
Maiden’s Tower (Kız Kulesi) is one of Istanbul’s most iconic landmarks, located on a small islet off the coast of Üsküdar at the southern entrance of the Bosphorus.
Steeped in history and legend, the tower has served as a lighthouse, watchtower, customs station, and quarantine center over the centuries. Today, it stands as a symbol of Istanbul, offering breathtaking views of both the European and Asian sides of the city.
According to the famous legend, a princess was placed in the tower by her father to protect her from a prophecy that foretold her death by a snake bite. Despite his efforts, the prophecy came true when a snake hidden in a fruit basket reached the tower.
From the water, Maiden’s Tower provides one of the most picturesque views in Istanbul, making it a highlight of any Bosphorus cruise, especially during sunset.
