Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park
We will birdwatch the whole day long, searching for local specialties.
Cliffs offer attractive habitats for Mediterranean mountain birds which are scarce in lowlands. The rupicolous and uplands avifauna will be the target of this excursion, with a short, yet specific, list of species to locate among the crags… Griffon vultures, Crag Martins, Black Redstarts, Rock Buntings, Blue Rock-thrushes and Red-billed Choughs.
A dense population of vultures and raptors is breeding in the region or passing-by during the migration period. Bonelli Eagle is resident and a most sought species although its habits and elusiveness makes it difficult to observe in the field.
Bushes attract Sardinian warblers and other passerines such as Cirl buntings. Other Mediterranean specialties to actively search for in Western Andalusian sierras are Tekla larks and Rock sparrows.
