Beijing North Railway Station-Parking Lot
In the morning, your driver will pick you up from your Beijing hotel lobby. After a comfortable transfer that takes you through the bustling streets of Beijing, you will be escorted to Beijing North Railway Station. The driver will ensure you enter the correct waiting room before departing. Then, you'll board a high - speed train bound for Datong. The journey, which typically takes around 2 to 2.5 hours, offers you a chance to relax and enjoy the passing scenery as the train speeds across the northern Chinese landscape.
Upon arrival at Datong South Railway Station, your private local tour guide and driver will be waiting for you at the exit, holding a sign with your name. The guide will greet you warmly and briefly introduce the day's itinerary.

Hengshan Hanging Temple (Xuankong si)
First, you will head to the Hanging Temple. During the drive, the guide will share historical background, explaining how this remarkable structure was constructed over 1,500 years ago.
The Hanging Temple is a masterpiece of ancient Chinese architecture. It was built in a way that makes use of the natural contours of the cliff. Notice how the wooden beams are inserted into holes in the rock, providing support. This temple is unique as it combines the philosophies of Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism.
When you arrive at the Hanging Temple, the guide will lead you through the narrow corridors and up the steep staircases.

Yungang Grottoes
Indulge in a delightful lunch break before embarking on a journey to the Yungang Grottoes, a renowned treasure trove of Buddhist art. Carved during the Northern Wei Dynasty in the 5th century, this magnificent project involved thousands of artisans over several decades.
Upon reaching the Yungang Grottoes, your guide will expertly navigate you through the complex, highlighting key features along the way. Begin your exploration in the Western Area, home to some of the earliest-carved caves. Then, venture into the Central Area, where you will be awestruck by the grandeur of the large-scale Buddha sculptures and the intricate carvings adorning the cave walls.
