Itinerary
1
Plaza de Catalunya
Discover the heart of Barcelona with this engaging walking tour starting at the iconic Plaça de Catalunya. Known as the city’s central hub, this lively square is the perfect starting point to explore the rich history and vibrant culture of Barcelona.

Gothic Quarter (Barri Gotic)
Welcome to the Gothic Quarter, the oldest part of Barcelona. As we walk these narrow medieval streets, imagine the footsteps of Romans, kings, and rebels echoing beneath us. You'll see a blend of Roman foundations, Gothic arches, and 19th-century restorations. Look around—this area is full of secrets. Here’s where the old Roman forum once stood, and just a few steps away, we’ll pass under the famous Bishop’s Bridge. This is also where Picasso lived and studied. Notice how the architecture reflects centuries of change, yet the spirit of the city remains. I’ll point out some hidden symbols and stories as we go—many of which most tourists completely miss.

El Born
Now we’re in El Born, one of the most atmospheric and artistic neighborhoods in Barcelona. This area was once a medieval marketplace, and today it's known for its bohemian flair, artisan boutiques, and local bars. As we walk these cobbled streets, notice the narrow layout—designed long before cars. You’ll hear stories about how merchants lived and worked here, and how El Born was once a stronghold of Catalan resistance. I’ll point out important landmarks like the old trade guilds and the nearby Born Cultural Center, which reveals ruins from the 1700s. It’s one of the best places to feel the soul of the city.

Casa de l'Ardiaca
Now we’ve arrived at one of the Gothic Quarter’s hidden gems — Casa de l'Ardiaca. From the outside, it might look like just another old stone building, but step closer and you’ll notice the beautiful blend of Gothic and Renaissance architecture. This was once the residence of the archdeacon, and today it houses the city’s Historical Archive. But what really captures everyone’s attention is this unique letterbox, added in the 1890s. Take a moment to admire it — see the birds tangled in vines and the turtle at the bottom? It’s a symbolic message about how slowly bureaucracy moves! Inside, there’s a peaceful courtyard with a fountain and palm trees — a perfect photo stop. While we won’t go deep inside during the tour, feel free to return after and explore the exhibits upstairs. This spot is a quiet oasis in the middle of the bustling old city and a great example of Barcelona’s layered history.

Barcelona Cathedral
Here we are at the majestic Barcelona Cathedral, officially known as the Cathedral of the Holy Cross and Saint Eulalia. This Gothic masterpiece took over 150 years to complete. As we stand here, take a look at the richly decorated façade and the towers reaching to the sky. Through your headset, I’ll guide you through its fascinating history, including stories of Saint Eulalia, the young martyr whose tomb lies beneath the altar. You’ll also learn about the Gothic cloister filled with palm trees, fountains, and even live geese—a symbol of vigilance. We won’t enter during the tour, but I’ll explain what to look for if you visit inside afterward.
