Angkor Wat was built between 1113-1150 AD and dedicated to Vishnu, the Hindu god of preservation. It's the best preserved of all the temples. Its layout and its scale are simply breathtaking, the wall surrounding the enclosure measures 1,000 by 800 meters and the moat, said to represent the oceans of the world is 200 meters wide. Angkor Wat is an architectural allegory of the mythical Mount Meru in the center of the world (Himalaya). This amazing temple homes the longest continuous bas relief in the world, which runs along the outer gallery walls.

The city’s name translates to “large city”. or “great city”. King Jayavarman VII made Angkor Thom the new capital of the Khmer Kingdom after driving out the Chams, who destroyed the old capital Yasodharapura. He fortified the city by building a high wall around it, in turn enclosed by a 100 meter wide moat.

Le Bayon est un temple khmer richement décoré situé à Angkor, au Cambodge. Construit à la fin du XIIe ou au début du XIIIe siècle comme temple d'État du roi bouddhiste mahayana Jayavarman VII, le Bayon se dresse au centre d'Angkor Thom, la capitale de Jayavarman. L'une de ses particularités est l'absence de mur d'enceinte. Il est cependant protégé par la muraille qui entoure la ville d'Angkor Thom. Le plan du Bayon est simple et comprend trois niveaux (1 à 3). Les premier et deuxième niveaux sont des galeries carrées ornées de bas-reliefs. Un sanctuaire central circulaire domine le troisième niveau. Malgré ce plan apparemment simple, l'agencement du Bayon est complexe, avec un dédale de galeries, de passages et de marches reliés de telle sorte que les niveaux sont pratiquement indiscernables et créent un éclairage tamisé, des allées étroites et des plafonds bas. Le temple est décoré de plus de 200 visages souriants sur sa tour.
