Itinerary
1
Marrakech
Traveling through stunning terrain over the Tizi n'Tichka Pass (2,260m), our first stop of the day is at Telouet, a town on the 'Route of the Caravans' from the Sahara to Marrakech via the Atlas Mountains. Telouet is home to one of the Atlas' most stunning Kasbahs, which served as the stately house and headquarters of the strong Glaoui tribe.
2 hours
2
Ait Ben Haddou
We arrive to Ait Benhaddou through a little-used back road. The Ksar of Ait Benhaddou, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987, is a spectacular example of southern Moroccan architecture. A classic pre-Saharan habitat is the Ksar, a collection of mud houses encircled by high walls. Within the defensive walls, which are fortified by corner towers, the dwellings pack together. Following a guided tour of the historic village, make your way up to the high point on the hill above the Ksar for spectacular views.
2 hours
3
Ouarzazate
Enjoy the lovely scenery as you travel to Ouarzazate over the high Atlas mountains and take some shots.
Taourirt Kasbah, a former Glaoui palace and the major attraction of the desert oasis city, is your final destination. This partially renovated 300-room stronghold represents the confluence of three rivers - Dadès, Draâ, and Ziz - as well as various trading routes. While Glaoui chiefs, known as cad, were never allowed to live in this luxurious castle, the Glaoui kasbah of Taourirt originally held hundreds of people. You'll have time to explore the palace and the kasbah's winding lanes.
