It's said that a wealthy local family once refused a poor woman and her son hospitality and that God was displeased, causing the family to be buried under the mounds of sand that now make up Erg Chebbi, located 50km south of Erfoud. But the reality of these dunes is genuinely remarkable. They can shape-shift and can reach heights of up to 160m. The way they illuminate in a beautiful rose gold hue until the afternoon sun changes their colour to orange, pink, and purple is truly a sight to behold.
