Lisbon Cathedral
Lisbon Cathedral, better known as Sé de Lisboa, is the oldest and most important church in the city, located in the Alfama district, it is the symbol of the Christian Reconquest, it is the most important church oldest in the capital. It was born in the Romanesque style but in the following centuries it underwent significant transformations in a Gothic style and although it has gone through the ages in an exemplary way, it has suffered several natural disasters such as the great earthquake of 1755. Its construction began in 1147 at the request of the first king of Portugal Afonso Henriques. This decision was made shortly after retaking the city from the Moors. It was built on the site of an old mosque to mark the triumph of the reconquest of Lisbon.
It is a pioneer monument and a very good way to immerse yourself in the beginning of our walk.
