Abune Yemata Guh Church
On Day 1, you’ll start your adventure by flying from Addis Ababa to Mekele. Upon arrival, you’ll meet your guide and driver and begin the scenic drive to Hawzen, which takes about 2-3 hours depending on road conditions.
After checking in at Hawzen Vision Hotel and freshening up, you’ll head to the base of Abune Yemata Guh, one of the most iconic rock-hewn churches in the region. The hike to Abune Yemata is moderately challenging, taking about 1-1.5 hours, and involves some steep and rocky sections. However, the effort is rewarded with breathtaking views and the chance to explore the church’s stunning frescoes. After your visit, you’ll return to Hawzen Vision Hotel for overnight stay, where you can relax and prepare for the next day’s activities.
