Day one takes you to the Giza Plateau for the Great Pyramid of Khufu, the Sphinx, and the Valley Temple, then to the Egyptian Museum, with an overnight stay at a Cairo hotel. Day two moves through Islamic Cairo: the Citadel of Saladin, the alabaster Mosque of Muhammad Ali, and the lanes of the old city, before the drive back to your ship. Your private guide and driver shape both days around your sailing time.

Day one drives inland to the Giza Plateau, where the Great Pyramid of Khufu rises from 2.3 million stone blocks, 4,500 years old, with the Sphinx and the Valley Temple of Khafre nearby. In the afternoon you visit the Egyptian Museum and its halls of pharaonic treasure, then check into your Cairo hotel for the night rather than driving back. Optional: enter the Great Pyramid ($11 USD per person), camel ride along the ridge (about $15 USD).

Day two climbs to the Citadel of Saladin for the alabaster Mosque of Muhammad Ali and a view over the city, then winds through the streets of Old Cairo, with its medieval gates, mosques, and markets. After a local lunch you begin the drive back to Alexandria, timed so you reboard your ship comfortably. Modest dress is needed for the mosque, and shoes come off inside.
