Catch the early morning flight from Addis Ababa to Bahir Dar, arriving before the day heats up. As soon as you land, meet the support vehicle and the guide who will be traveling with you for the next 3 days, when you arrive in Bahir Dar you'll feel the fresh breeze coming off Lake Tana. Hop onto a local boat and glide across the water to visit the ancient island monasteries. These aren't touristy museums—they're living places of worship where monks still pray and tend to gardens. Inside, the walls are covered in centuries-old paintings telling biblical stories in vivid colors. After a relaxed lunch by the lake, drive out to the Blue Nile Falls. The sound hits you long before you see it—a deep, constant roar. Walk along the trails to get close enough to feel the mist on your face. Locals call it "smoking water," and once you're there, you'll understand why. Head back to town for a peaceful evening by the lake.
