The Melfi Castle is a majestic Norman fortress, one of the most important in Southern Italy, characterized by massive walls and numerous towers, later expanded by the Swabians and Angevins; it played a central role especially under Frederick II. Inside, it houses the National Archaeological Museum Massimo Pallottino, which preserves artifacts from the Vulture area, including ceramics, weapons, and funerary goods from Lucanian and Roman populations.

The Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta in Melfi is an important religious building that combines Romanesque and Baroque elements, the result of numerous modifications over the centuries. Characterized by an imposing Norman bell tower, it features spacious interiors decorated with marble altars, frescoes, and a fine wooden choir, reflecting the city’s rich artistic and spiritual heritage.

The Porta Venosina is one of the ancient medieval gates of Melfi, part of the city’s defensive system. Characterized by a rounded arch made of stone and brick, it features typical elements of military architecture such as narrow slits and solid structures. Once a main entrance used by merchants and travelers, it still preserves the historical charm of the past.
