Upon arrival at the Westerbork, you will explore the one-half square kilometer area that welcomed more than 102,000 Jews (and other races) on their way to the concentration and extermination camps in Auschwitz, Sobibór, Theresienstadt and Bergen-Belsen. Compared to the camps built for the purpose of industrial murder, Camp Westerbork was considered by Nazi standards as “humane”, yet most of its prisoners, like Anne Frank and Etty Hillesum, didn’t survive the war.
