The Avenue of the Baobabs is one of Madagascar’s most iconic landscapes, located about 20 kilometers north of Morondava on the island’s west coast. This striking dirt road is lined with towering Adansonia grandidieri baobabs, some reaching up to 30 meters in height and believed to be more than 800 years old. Once part of a dense tropical forest, these majestic “renala,” meaning “mother of the forest” in Malagasy, now stand isolated due to years of deforestation and agricultural expansion. Their massive trunks and umbrella-shaped crowns create an unforgettable silhouette, especially during day visit and sunset when the light transforms the scene into a magical, golden tableau.
