Traditional market with fresh fruits and vegetables. You can also buy flowers, crafts and souvenirs. You have the chance to try some local drinks like Cidra and Poncha. Next to the market, you may also visit Quinta da Junta Garden which is a public park with a wide diversity of Madeiran flora and fauna species.

You can visit the fish market or have a short walk on the promenade by the sea. You can also visit the São Salvador Church, a gothic manueline style temple. It is one of the churches, outside of Funchal, with a large architectural interest.

The majestic statue of Cristo Rei stands on top of a hill which drops into a ravine, towards the sea. The viewpoint, in Garajau, gives visitors an excellent partial view over Funchal bay, the Garajau Reserve, Caniço de Baixo and the Atlantic Ocean.
