José Maria da Fonseca has been operating wine since 1834, the fruit of the shared passion of a family that has preserved and projected the memory and prestige of its founder. Conscious of the responsibility of being the oldest producer of table wine and Moscatel de Setúbal in Portugal, José Maria da Fonseca has a philosophy of permanent development, which makes it invest more and more in research and of production, combining the most modern techniques with traditional knowledge. An example of this is the Adega José de Sousa Rosado Fernandes, in Reguengos de Monsaraz, Alentejo, where the Roman tradition of fermenting in clay pots keeps abreast of the latest technology.

In 1997, Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal, then known as JP Vinhos, moved from Pinhal Novo to the Azeitão wine region in the heart of the Setúbal Peninsula and settles into an emblematic building designed and built by António d'Avillez , symbol of modernity anchored in tradition. The building is a glazed hexagon where innovative solutions for design and execution have been found, both in the cellar area and in the office area.
