The Santa Barbara Public Library's Central Building, a Spanish Colonial Revival landmark, began with a Carnegie grant-funded design by Henry Hornbostel (with local Francis Wilson), opening in 1917, then reconstructed by Carleton Winslow after the 1925 earthquake, with the Art Deco Faulkner Gallery (by Myron Hunt) added in 1930, culminating in significant renovations and plaza revitalization in the 2020s to restore historic features like the iconic tympanum and poppy mural. It also used to be the post office.
