San Gimignano
San Gimignano is famous all over the world for its unmistakable Listing characterized by medieval towers. In its heyday, the noble families of the village built 72 as a symbol of power and wealth. Today there are 14 left.
The heart of the village develops around two main squares connected to each other:
Piazza della Cisterna: With a particular triangular shape, with an ancient central stone well and surrounded by elegant noble palaces.
Piazza del Duomo: Center of religious and political life, where the Collegiate Church (the Duomo, with splendid frescoes of the '300), the Palazzo del Popolo and the most impressive towers are located.
In addition to its architectural beauty, San Gimignano is famous for its excellent products:
Vernaccia di San Gimignano: One of the finest white wines in Italy, the first to receive the DOC in 1966.
Artisanal Gelato : Piazza della Cisterna is home to some of the most award-winning ice cream parlors in the world.
