Omaha Beach faisait partie de la zone d'invasion assignée à la Première armée américaine, sous le commandement du lieutenant-général Omar Bradley. Les secteurs d'assaut d'Omaha portaient les noms de code (d'ouest en est) : Charlie, Dog (composé de sections verte, blanche et rouge), Easy (sections verte et rouge) et Fox (sections verte et rouge).
