Being such a water rich city, and having the river Maas flowing right through the city
a bridge is a real necessity. The most spectacular bridge is the Erasmus bridge, named
after the famous Rotterdam priest and scholar Erasmus. Since the bridge resembles a appearance of
a swan, it is popular culture it is often called the swan. Every new years
eve it is home to one of the largest firework shows in the Netherlands.
