Temple Senso-ji
Senso-ji is a temple of the Shokannon school of Buddhism in the Asakusa district, Taito, Tokyo. Its full official name is Kinryuzan Senso-ji. Senso-ji is the oldest Buddhist temple in the Tokyo area. According to legends, the temple was founded in 628 on the site where a statue of the bodhisattva Kannon was found. In the 17th and 19th centuries, the temple was the site of official prayer services of the Tokugawa Shogunate. Until World War II, Senso-ji belonged to the Tendai school.
