Umi Jigoku, or “Sea Hell,” is the largest of Beppu’s Hells and is famous for its striking cobalt-blue hot spring pond. Kamado Jigoku, or “Cooking Pot Hell,” is a colorful hot spring attraction divided into several pools of boiling water and bubbling mud. Jigoku Mushi Kobo Kannawa offers a rare chance to cook and enjoy food using Beppu’s natural hot spring steam. Known as “Jigoku Mushi” or “Hell Steaming,” this traditional method uses geothermal heat to steam seasonal vegetables, seafood, and meats in large wooden steamers.
