The park is a vast protected area of rugged limestone mountains, which are famous for being the rainiest place in Spain.

It is located in the centre of the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park, in the north-eastern corner of the province, specifically on the slopes of the Sierra del Jaral, between the rivers Guadalete and Bocaleones, and on the banks of the Zahara-El Gastor reservoir.
