George Floyd Square has hosted thousands of visitors from around the world. In the aftermath of the murder of George Floyd, community spontaneously created the memorial as a place for reflection about issues of racism and injustice.

Bichota began with the recognition that while many Black and Brown cultures across the globe are the producers of coffee, rarely are those cultures reflected in specialty coffee shops in the United States. The founder, KingDemetrius , was among only a few reporters who covered Derek Chauvin inside the courtroom. The writing he did during the trail gave many a unique perspective. His dedication to serve the community in exposing police brutality led him to be the first journalist on scene after the killing of George Floyd. His images have been seen by countless people across the world as he documents protests and grassroots organizing in Minnesota and beyond.
