Jvari Monastery is a 6th-century Georgian Orthodox church located on a hilltop overlooking the town of Mtskheta. Its name means “Monastery of the Cross,” as it was built on the site where Saint Nino erected a wooden cross to mark Georgia’s conversion to Christianity. A masterpiece of early medieval architecture, Jvari offers breathtaking panoramic views of the confluence of the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers and is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
