Château de Dunnottar
Dunnottar Castle could be called a hidden gem amongst the plethora of Scottish castles . It is not very well-known but it has a fascinating history including visits from William Wallace and Mary, Queen of Scots. The castle must have the most spectacular location in Scotland , sitting on a rocky promontory on the east coast of Scotland just outside Stonehaven , about 15 miles from Aberdeen . The word impregnable was probably invented for this castle. It is surrounded on all sides by a sheer cliff . Entry is by a tunnel through the cliff . Once you actually reach the top the views are stunning.

Glamis Castle
Glamis Castle is the home of the Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne . Glamis Castle has been the home of the Lyon family since the 14th century . With no less than 9 ghosts, Glamis Castle is one of Scotland’s most haunted castles . Glamis Castle is a Scottish castle said to have inspired Shakespear’s Macbeth but also Royal connections, as before it was granted to the Lyon family in the 14th Century, it was in the hands of Scottish Royalty. The Queen Mother was born in 1900 as Elizabeth Bowes Lyon. She spent a great deal of her childhood at Glamis Castle. Her second child, Princess Margaret, was born at the Castle on August 21, 1930.
