This journey will initiate its course in central Funchal and will head towards Pico´s Fortress. It is called that way due to its proximity to the Ribeira São João (stream), and because it was built on Pico dos Frias early in the 17th century. This amazing fortress took part in the defensive system that protected the city of Funchal against the attack of pirates, French corsairs, and Argelian moors and functions as a safety gate to battlement, over the Ribeira de São João (stream). These historical facts, and many other curious and fun details about the seen places will be given throughout the entire tour.

After a quick pit stop of 15 minutes at the Pico´s Fortress, the journey will continue towards Quinta das Cruzes. This is a property that has the longest historical traditions in Funchal, linked back to the first captains-donors. It was in these surroundings that they established their second residence. This is not only a property with a lot of historical background, but also a museum that displays foreign furniture, antique pieces, ceramics, and sculptures of Madeira´s estate.

Funchal city is also known for its beautiful and majestic basilicas, and on this tuk-tuk trip, most of them will be shown. Santa Clara´s convent will be the first, this convent was built back in the late 16th century, by order of João Gonçalves Câmara, the second major of Funchal.

Continuing the trip on to see another beautiful church, Saint Pedro´s, a church built-in 1950. Inside one can find decorations from the 17th, 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries.

The Cathedral of Funchal will be the next highlight of this journey, this one was built in the reign of Dom Manuel. It is called by locals as “Sé”, and features Manueline Gothic characteristics throughout. New features have been acquired throughout the years at Sé´s Cathedral and can be seen from outside of the premises.
