Between the white facades and the flower terraces, sudden openings reveal the Aegean Sea and volcanic islets in the distance.

You are in front of the Holy Metropolitan Church of Ypapanti, the great Orthodox cathedral of Fira. Built in 1827, it is dedicated to the Presentation of Christ in the Temple and remains today the religious seat of the island.

The Prehistoric Museum of Thira is one of the must-see places in Fira. Inaugurated in 2000, it was built to house the treasures discovered at the archaeological site of Akrotiri, this Bronze Age city often nicknamed "Aegean Pompeii".
